Music has always been a part of Vienna’s daily life. But when the pandemic hit Austria in March 2020, the Viennese streets were suddenly left empty and the sounds around the city fell silent. With cultural events being cancelled, artists who mostly benefit from the industry were left without or with little support.
As some countries continue on lockdown during the crisis, Vienna finally stands up and plays its music once again. Hosted by Arabella Fenyves of Radio Klassik Stephansdom, she will take you on a visual journey around the music capital of the world until she leads us to the Grand Hotel Vienna where the concert takes place.
Watch Bösendorfer artists Donka Angatscheva together with her fellow pianist Nareh Arghamanyan as they serenade you with soothing classical sounds as they are joined by some international talents from the music scene: award-winning violinist Yury Revich, clarinetist and a longtime member of the Vienna Philharmonic Johann Hindler as well as flutist Thomas Frey and cellist Brendan Goh. Soprano Ella Tyran and Tenor Stefan Reichmann recall Vienna as a city of opera and finally, actress Mijou Kovacs dedicates a homage to Georges Sand and Frédéric Chopin.
Amid all that’s happening at the moment, the art in Austria lives on.
